about

This album is a collection of archaic Lithuanian polyphonic songs – sutartinės. What these particular songs have in common is a single mystic notion encoded in the depths of the Lithuanian language. The polyphonic songs from the release Kas dar taka are dominated by the Lithuanian verb teka which has several very different but mythologically connected meanings: it can mean the rising of the sun, the flowing of a river, the flowing of time as well as the process of a woman marrying a man. The tears of the bride stream down her face like a brook as she drifts her hair cut with golden scissors down the river. Thus, the two symbols connect two different worlds.

The motifs of the sun, water and marriage are the main themes related to the transformation of a girl into a bride and a woman. Therefore, the most important jobs and events of a woman’s life revealed in many polyphonic songs produce a feeling of the peaceful flow of water and the slow flow of time, while constantly recurrent elements point to the cyclic nature and eternal flow of time.

The mythological threads collected here intertwine like the music of the polyphonic songs themselves as if weaving a symbolic message from a femininely transparent, fragile and slow that time (in illo tempore) from the band “Trys keturiose” to the hurried and chaotic world.
